Last show at Colston Hall, Bristol before renovation

The Colston Hall, being the biggest venue in Bristol, has been a regular haunt of ours for over 20 years. We have provided sound and crew for countless artists coming through the city. The venue closes in June for a complete 2 year rebuild that will see the entire building gutted and remodelled. As last night's gig with Ezra Furman marked our last show in this legendary venue we thought we'd take a few snaps to commemorate the occasion. Colston's load-in is terrible, the back stage areas look like a prison camp and place is falling apart, but the staff have always been great to us and we're going to miss this place...

King Sound Reinforcement Invests in a 15m Orbit Stage!

DSC_0211 orbit final.JPG

The classic Orbit stage has long been a popular choice for festivals and large scale events. 15M wide and up to 15M deep, the Orbit’s curved roof not only looks fantastic it is also a safe and well proven design that’s well loved for its fine acoustic properties (orchestras love them!). Able to support loads of up to 6 tonnes, the roof has the capacity to keep up with modern production demands.

DSC_5026 orbit.JPG
DSC_0144.JPG

Our stage has had an easy life - originally sold new by manufacturer Serious Stages aboard, it was barely used and put into storage. Finding its way back to the UK a couple of years ago, the stage system was cleaned and overhauled to a high standard and put back into service but used very little. It comes to us with a large quantity of Haki modular staging and purpose designed side sheds.

15m Orbit new 2.jpg

Paul King (MD): ‘'We’ve been looking for a larger staging system for a while and when this Orbit became available I knew it was the perfect choice. This stage will enable us to offer clients a larger stage that we can also integrate with other elements to provide a complete production package combining sound, lighting, stage and power from one supplier’'.

King Sound Reinforcement offers event organisers a range of outdoor covered stages of all sizes and structures including platforms, tribunes, disabled viewing areas, PA and FOH towers all from stock.

DiGiCo training comes to King Sound

Having recently invested in two DiGiCo SD12 touring consoles for our rental stock, we thought it was a good idea to invite DiGiCo along to get us up to speed on all the advanced features these powerful consoles have to offer.

The training took place at the King Sound warehouse so we could train with our own consoles and also have other our equipment at hand, if required.

DSC_5999-for-web-1200.jpg

The session was very interactive with our chef engineers Paul, Dean and Greg attending (we’ve had also few other fellow engineers from other companies joining us our later).

DSC_6015-not-for-web-(full-size).jpg
DSC_5994-for-web-1200.jpg
DSC_5993-for-web-1200.jpg

The DiGiCo training normally lasts up to 6 hours and includes tons of material which is basically divided into three sections:

  1. quick start for those who have never used, or seen, a DiGICo console before;
  2. standard tuition that shows all major setup, functions, controls and parameters and then further broken down into chapters specific to features and functions users may wish to gain greater knowledge of;
  3.  Advanced configuration designed for those wanting to learn enhanced features such as remote control, mirroring consoles and programming for complex shows and systems.

After brief discussion it was decided to touch up all the parts with the particular emphasis on the advanced set ups and schemes.

Our DiGiCo trainer Tom Williams was both very friendly and knowledgeable. He not only made the whole experience fun and interesting, but also ensured he answered all of our questions, and provided handy advice on getting the best out of DiGiCo set ups, using real world scenarios.

Bristol Christmas Lights Switch On 10th November 2017

We would like to share a few pictures from the last weekend's event - The Bristol Christmas lights switch-on at Cabot Circus.

DSC_8738-for-web.jpg

We've been involved with this event for several years now (often in cooperation with the brilliant Cirque Bijou team), so we were very excited to help again with the launch of festive season in Bristol!

We provided full technical production, including sound, lighting, staging and crew. This year we employed multiple distributed L-Acoustics Kara and Kiva II arrays along with SB 15 and 18 subs to deliver clear audio to the estimated 4000 strong crowd in the multi level shopping complex.

DSC_5869-for-web.jpg
DSC_5848-for-web.jpg
DSC_8702-for-web.jpg

Kiva II again impressed - compact and lightweight, it never fails to deliver clarity and precision for speech and lead instruments as well, not to mention easy and quick set up which is essential in the shows where time really matters. (the King team tirelessly rigged throughout the night to ensure disruption to the normal functioning of Bristol’s main shopping quarter was kept to minimum).

From 5:30pm the Snow Queen and her elves led a procession from The Galleries through Quakers Friars into Cabot Circus, stopping to serenade the crowds along the way.

DSC_5847-for-web.jpg

The main festive fun kicked off at 6pm in Cabot Circus as pupils from The Dolphin School performed a selection of Christmas songs at the stage outside House of Fraser mid floor.

DSC_5872-for-web.jpg

The highlight of the event - Cirque Bijou's mischievous acrobatic elves who bravely climbed a mountain of presents to turn on the Christmas lights. What fun!

King team was truly excited to be part of this big and important for the city event. Thank you for your trust in us all these years and choosing our company as your main contractor over and over again. We feel very proud and humbled at the same time and look forward to even more wonderful Christmas events in the future!

Welcome to the Team!

DSC_8590-for-web.jpg

King Sound Reinforcement would like to welcome Adam Cook as the newest member of the King Sound Reinforcement team.

Adam has been working with KSR as part of our Crewing Team over the summer. It is fantastic that he will be joining us as part of our warehousing team.

One of Adam’s roles will be to look after our ever increasing backline hire stock. Adam is an active and able musician - he plays drums, guitar and keyboards and, as a result, has excellent knowledge of all our available backline. Adam has just completed a BA Hons in Pro Musicianship and alongside working with us is now studying for a Masters in Sound Production at Bath Spa University.

When asked "what are you most looking forward to about working at King Sound?”

Adam replied, "The opportunity to meet like minded people who are already in the music industry. I can learn from them and also work in the field I feel most passionate about."

Adam prefers coffee in the morning but tea in the afternoon and his favourite treat is carrot cake, but he’s also partial to a walnut or two.

When asked "What do you think you can bring to KSR from your degree experience at Bath Spa" Adam said "I'm really dedicated to success and teamwork. King Sound Reinforcement has a fantastic team of professionals that I'm really happy to call myself a part of. I love the ability to think outside the box and I’m excited about working on new and exciting projects for prospective clients."

Paul King comments “Adam is a talented guy who’s really motivated to develop a career in the industry. He’s a natural self starter with a drive to learn. That, coupled with his solid work ethic, makes him a natural fit for the company as we expand rapidly”

You can email Adam directly at adam@kingsr.com or 0117 955 6888 Option 1

KSR Summer 2017 Round Up

The summer is well and truly past us and the nights are drawing in setting the start of the Autumn/Winter season. We thought it would be an idea to round up our summer.

DSC_7954.JPG

Our summer was thick and fast, filled with a multitude of different events. We had new kit additions including more L-Acoustics, Shure, Sennheiser & DPA equipment.

June started with a run of UK dates with Australian Rocker Jon Stevens. Jon was in the UK promoting his new Album Starlight and played a handful of UK shows including Isle of White Festival. We supplied a full touring control and IEM package.

June also saw Bristol Sounds come to town. A four day show in Bristol’s historic harbourside featuring Benobo, Manic Street Preachers, Craig David the Hacienda Orchestra. We supplied a full L-Acoustics system with K2/SB18 for FOH with Kara/SB18 fills. Monitors were our APG SMX15s and Sennheiser IEMs. Consoles were Midas Pro series and Avid Profiles.

DSC_8254.JPG

Also in June  we were at Glastonbury Festival helping out South West Group Events with Delays arrays outside the John Peel Tent for the thousands that turned up to see this year’s surprise artist, The Killers.

One of July’s highlights for us was Bristol Pride where we supplied a full technical production package including sound, stage structures, site power, lighting and crew. Main stage was headlined by Busted and Belinda Carlisle and the huge crowd was kept entertained by our L-Acoustics Kara system at FOH. We also supplied a full lighting rig which included 30 IP Rated par cans to light up the Lloyds Building. All ran from our Chamsys MQ100.

Our long standing (17 year!) relationship with Bristol Harbourside Festival continued. This year we provided 6 stages with PA systems including Jelly Records Cascade Steps. One of this year’s challenges was to provide sound reinforcement for the 20 piece Bristol Ensemble orchestra who played Handel’s Water Music from a barge that passed though Bristol’s harbor to close the event. For this we used our fantastic L Acoustics Kiva II system with a Midas M32 and more DPA microphone than we can remember. You can see a little video of this via this link.

20429668_806693192823920_1200882480399876838_n.jpg

August we had the return of the Old Duke Jazz Festival as well as Pub Chain Green King’s Party in The Car park events. A Somerset tradition is its Harvest home events where the village welcomes in the harvest. This year we provided full production for two of them. Which included Somerset’s one and only Wurzels. Where be that blackbird too....

We are looking forward to next year already with Autumn looking to be as busy as the summer.

Please get in touch if we can help you with planning any of your up and coming events.

King Sound Reinforcement Invests in DiGiCo

DSC_8696_01.JPG

As part of our ongoing rental stock updates we are pleased to announce that we have added two DiGiCo SD12 touring systems.

Dean Turner comments "We have been looking at a adding some new consoles to our hire stock for a while. With the release of the new DiGiCo SD12 it seems like the perfect time to join the DiGiCo Club. The SD12's have been fitted with Optics Cards for use with DiGiCo's SD Racks. We also have Waves cards available for hire with the consoles and can supply with a complete waves touring package.”

DSC_5544.JPG

To go with the SD12 consoles we have instock two DiGiCo D2 racks, and also a DiGiCo SD Rack which has been configured to allow 56 inputs, 24 outputs and 8 AES outputs.

DSC_8617.JPG

Tim Shaxon of DiGiCo comments "We're delighted KSR have bought their first DiGiCo consoles. They're a company that have been on our radar for a while so its great that they're now owners of two shiny new SD12's. Welcome to the club!"

The Ringmaster Returns

DSC_8423 12.46.00 copy.JPG

Dave Stewart, known as the Ringmaster, pulls musicians from across the globe together to play two UK dates to celebrate his 65th Birthday. Guests included Bob Geldof, Jon Stevens, Johnny Borrell, Diane Birch & Candy Dulpher to name a few.

King Sound supplied a control and monitors package for the UK Dates, plus a full PA for the Sunderland Empire Show.

FOH engineer Tom New selected a DiGiCo SD12 console for his mix, supplemented with Waves running via DiGiCo’s Sound Grid.

Over in monitor world, engineer Dean Turner used a Midas Pro2 console. ''The band were all on a combination of In-Ear-Monitors with an additional eight wedge mixes and side fills . The Pro2 was a compact choice for the multiple mixes Dean needed to keep on top of."

For the touring PA, a full L-Acoustics Kara system all powered by the LA8 amplifiers. Additional KIVA II were carried for out fills and lip fills.

unedited DSC_8456.JPG

LATEST ARRIVALS: KIVA II SYSTEM

Meet our new L-Acoustics Kiva II system. We've found the extraordinary combination of clarity, SPL, coverage and weight has completely re defined what a small line array system can achieve and we've found a place for Kiva II on many shows where we'd previously used point source alternatives - with outstanding results!

We deployed an L-Acoustics system comprising of 12X Kiva II and 2X SB15M for the event closing performance of Handel's Water Music performed by the Bristol Ensemble Orchestra at Bristol Harbour Festival. The 21 piece orchestra performed the piece aboard the Tower Belle, which cruised the harbour heading a flotilla during the performance. Thousands lined Bristol's historic harbour and the orchestra sounded absolutely amazing through the Kiva II. With limited power on board we configured the whole system to run on just one LA8 amplifier!

Bristol Pride '17!

Well, that was intense! As usual we provided full site electrics, sound and stage for the popular Cabaret stage, full sound and lighting production package for main stage and illumination for the Lloyds Amphitheatre building. This year technical production took a big leap forward with a larger Cabaret Stage, a Main Stage full lighting package designed by Dan Dodd, a much larger PA system - L-Acoustics Kara/SB28/ARCS system as well as a new FOH mix position. The crowds were HUGE with the site at capacity from around 3.30pm onwards. We do a lot of events at Lloyds Amphitheatre, but had never seen crowds like this! Luckily we had configured the L-Acoustics Kara for a throw of over 75M... just in case.

Bristol Sounds 2017

Many thanks to Crosstown Concerts for another fantastic week at Lloyds Ampitheatre. The eclectic line up included Benobo, Manic Street Preachers, Craig David, British Sea Power and the wonderful Bristol Sounds - Haçienda Classical. We did sound and provided many crew - who helped 'grease the wheels' in many areas of production and who's duties included a particularly arduous overnight stage build for Hacienda.

All the touring crews were lovely, the L-ACOUSTICS K2 sounded amazing, our friends Utopium Bristol & London did a great job with the lighting and each night had wonderful performances that the large crowds lapped up. Really it could not have gone better. Simmer Jelhorne, Tommy Gunningham, Dean Turner, Edd Sedgwick, Matt Royston-Bishop, Duncan O'Brien, Jen Kam, Conal Dodds and Dan Dodd.

King Sound Reinforcement absorbs Eventall Limited

KSR-full-logo-absorbs.jpg

We are pleased to announce Eventall, a successful event production company based in Weston Super Mare, is joining forces with King Sound Reinforcement Limited. Eventall's hire stock will re locate to our Bristol warehouse and the company's existing clients including Weston's Grand Pier will be fully supported from a new Weston office of King Sound Reinforcement.

Dean Turner, formally of Eventall, will head up the Weston operation and become a Director of King Sound Reinforcement. His responsibilities will include leading our rapidly expanding touring department, developing new business and managing existing client relationships.

Paul King, (MD) comments: 'We've worked closely with Dean for many years and have the up-most respect for his talents. I have always been impressed by his ability to generate business, deal with clients at all levels and create innovative production solutions. He is also one of the very few multi discipline touring professionals in the industry. Indeed, his current touring projects include not only FOH sound for the Hoosiers, Monitor engineer for Reef but also Lighting Designer for The Boomtown Rats & Bob Geldof! By absorbing Eventall everyone wins -  we harness the considerable talents of Dean and his team,  bolster our hire stock, particularly of lighting equipment, and start to expand geographically.  In return, access to our infrastructure, facilities and manpower will free up Dean to develop new business more effectively, knowing the back end is well and truly covered!'

Dean Turner, comments: 'I'm delighted to be on board with King Sound. This new exciting new venture will be great for all existing and new customers. I'm really looking forward to being able to drive forwards with new projects. We now have a much larger infrastructure and a creative production team to help during this year and beyond as King continues to grow rapidly.'

King Sound achieves L-Acoustics Rental Network status.

King Sound achieves L-Acoustics Rental Network status – first in the South West! Following investment in L-Acoustics over the last 12 months, we have been recognised by L-Acoustics as ‘K’ Standard KARA Rental Network Agents. As one of only a handful of ‘K’ Standard suppliers in the UK and the sole Rental Network partner in the South West UK, we aim to become first call providers in the region for L-Acoustics systems.

King Sound hosts L-Acoustics Training Seminar.

We were proud to host two day training at our Bristol headquarters marking the first L-Acoustics training to take place in the South West for many years.

Day 1 covered system fundamentals - product line up, technology, Network Manager and Soundvision software.

DSC_7543.JPG

Day 2 concentrated on the Kara WST line array system - system design in the morning with the afternoon devoted to a practial workshop of the rigging procedures and listening tests.

Fully booked both days, with L-Acoustics trainer Chris Vass doing an excellent job of keeping everyone engaged, the training was deemed a great success by all concerned.

Pride Bristol

Great day at Pride, good performances from Lisa Stansfield & Little Boots amongst others. The Compere Boogaloo Stu handled the audience with great care and attention, he can be seen in the backstage pic near the King gazebo donning an enormous yellow wig.

Meanwhile over on the Cabaret Stage the Nova Elite line array proved it's worth with crowds of over 1500 people, and the feedback from the cabaret performers was generous stating, "it was the best sound from any Pride event they have ever done."

Special thanks to Pride Organiser Daryn and his team for expertly handling the advancing process with us and making it a excellent day out for all.
